Hardware budgets are feeling the pinch of our tepid economy, and many companies are making employees use their laptops longer. If you are starting to tell your folks to keep plugging along with their laptops for four or five years instead of just three, you might be running into an unexpected expense: dead laptop batteries.

Well, to be fair, your laptop's batteries probably aren't completely dead. But since Lithium Ion batteries tend to lose about 20% of their capacity each year, a typical three-year-old laptop might only get about an hour or so on a charge, which might not even get your folks through an entire meeting. Here are four simple tips to forestall the day that you need to replace those batteries:

Keep it cool. Heat is the primary killer of batteries. Tell your employees to be careful not to let their laptops overheat. One common way that happens is packing a running laptop into a backpack or briefcase. If the laptop fails to go to sleep (and let's face it — sleep glitches are common), then the laptop can get crazy hot in an enclosed space. You can almost smell the loss of battery longevity.

Recondition your battery regularly. Most laptop manufacturers (except Apple) don't generally tell you about this, but a simple process known as reconditioning (or occasionally, recalibrating) can breathe new life into your laptop battery and add capacity back. To do that, turn off your screen saver and any other power management tools which put your PC to sleep. Fully charge the laptop, and then let it run all the way down — right until it powers down due to lack of juice. Then charge it back up again and restore your power management stuff. Do this every few months (such as three times a year).

Remove it when you're not using it. When you leave your laptop plugged in at your desk all day every day, the battery never gets a chance to discharge and recharge — which is critical to its long-term health. Thankfully, there's a simple solution: Remove the battery. As long as your laptop is connected to AC power, the battery isn't necessary; it'll run without it. Just remember to pop it back in before you take your laptop on the go.

Start with a super-sized battery. When you purchase your next round of laptops, upgrade to the extended-life battery. Not only will it give you significantly longer runtime to start with — great for road warriors and anyone else who works away from the office a lot — but the inevitable loss of battery life will have a less pronounced effect. The added cost of the larger batteries is worth the investment, because they end up lasting significantly longer.

If I could recall my experience in VAT Inc. there are a lot of "1st time" that happened only in this dissolve company. My two years and seven months was indeed full of magnanimous emotions that traverse in every group of people in the 3rd Floor of Rosary Bldg., Iznart St., Iloilo City (address gali??). These are not invalid ID - as what the Biometric said these are fully expression of experience that I have in VAT....

I was able to buy gadgets on my own expense such as laptop, cellphone, micro SD and I also re-charged the battery at the office then I committed a violation... LOL

My Backyard in Plants vs. Zombies

It's been a while since I' was addicted with this game - the Plants vs. Zombies! Now I was able to top all the levels and grabbed 28 flags in the survival stage.

Just like in any battle, I was also failed in some stages where I was not aware of what I'm doing and my only goal is to reach the top.

These failures that I've got made me realize to stay focus and be equipped with the most important thing one must have.

Plants vs. Zombies is just an ordinary game but it has \many lessons to learn.

Since I've been working as Virtual Assistant, I then considered online-interaction such as IM, Video Conference, Chatting, etc... as the greatest breakthrough in computer history. Since I'm living in one of the remote area of Iloilo, this feature of todays technology is considered as a big step knowing that communication is just around and conducted in real time.

Another latest innovation that made me mesmerized are the online office applications that we used inside the office. The fact that we are the assistant of our boss abroad, we are able to interact and do the project simultaneously. These applications are: ZOHO, EditGrid, GoogleDocs.

PCOS machine may cause trouble to some but for me it was a great help in casting my vote and even others too. Amidst the failure of some machines, we are glad in our barangay that PCOS mahines were up and speed up the results of polling. A closed encounter with this controversial machine in 2010 Philippine Election is what made me excited to vote.

We made history as the Filipinos transfer to a new method of votation that marked us the first country in ASEAN to hold electronic election. Despite the long lines, patience was our main weapon to continue the agony to select the next set of public officilas. As early as seven in the morning the Jalaud Elementary School, where we always hold the election, was filled with excited people as they will cast their votes using, not the manual anymore but an automatic way.

Going back to my encounter, I arrived at exactly 9:30 AM and how fortunate I am that my mother was the one lined up for me so that I can quickly run into the polling precinct. But despite of this, I still waited for almost 2 hours in order to cast my vote. What made this process so long was the clustering of precents. In one room 500 plus qualified voters are assiggned to votes. Another reason was the unsystematic process of the BEI. (Of course we know that ther were not used to it and their trainings were not enough.) Nevertheless they corrected their process which made votation faster.

It made me only 2 minutes to shade all the ovals perfectly for all the positions. (Of course I practiced at home on how to shade "ang bilog na hugis itlog"). Then I lined to the machine, following the next guy. Unfurtunately after he entered his ballot the machine posted a "paper jam" error. (Like the printer? I said to myself.. hahah) Good thing it was easily fixed by just arranging the shape of the where the machine was placed. So.. it was my turn and there you go without hassle. I received a "congratulations" from the screen. Sign that all my entries were correct. Yahoo! Then the put indelible ink in my nail.

Good job to the COMELEC.. Probably minor review of the process I'm sure we will have a smooth sailin election next time!

Jamming Device! Wanted...

This coming Monday May 10, 2010 the Filipinos will do their duty to vote for the next set of public officials who will be the leader of the entire country, province and municipaility. What makes this significant and record breaker is that this will be the first automated election in the Philippines. The BEI will be using the PCOS machine to count the ballots not manual counting anymore.

This hi-tech gadget will surely make the counting faster that before. Contrary to that device is the "jamming device" that will interrupts the transmission of the results. This device is also a hi-tech one with the power to create havoc or may corrput the transmission of results. I beliive this device should be ban along the perimeter of the polling precints and the cellphone towers.

As Filipino cititzen let's obey and makes this election a clean and honest one. We need to set a record! not just an ordinary record but a good recordsto show the world that we are technologically capable of having an automated honest election!

Let's avoid corrupt officials.. Let's avoid jamming device...

One of the most important device that the modern world invented was the EXTERNAL SAVING DEVICE... My Storage encounter...

The Fan-Like Disk
The first saving device that I used was way back 1999 when I was a first year high school student of a private secondary school! Introducing the fun-like disk... The 5.25 floppy disk which was introduced a long time ago... Being in the third world country this saving device introduced me to the world of IT. The year 1999 is kinda year that opens me into the real media world. What about the color? Yes its analog.. Most likely the color is purely black or white. I'd remembered during that time that we need to buy a dozen of that device since its capacity was very low and it was fitted with the OS ,which operates with - the DOS or disk operating system..

The Common Floppy Disk
Thanks to technology! It always resolve the problem in our necessity..... Entering my 3rd year level in high school, the new size of floppy disk was introduced to us. The 3.5 floppyd isk which I used until I reach my college years.. With a greater capacity and trendy appearance, because you can select the best color you want. During the later stage, this disk phased out due to the demand of higher capacity. A saving device that could save a multiple videos, images etc... And the result? The USBs, memory stick or simply called flash disk..

The All-Time Hit Disk
Entering my 3rd year of college, this type of saving device has been used by almost all of us.. Small, with terrible capacity and the flash which lights every time you plug into the port... Unlike the old model which has the standard capacity... Provided with different designs that best suited to your taste... This saving device varies into hexadecimal capacity... from the lowest; the 168mb....256 mb...514mb up to 1 & even more that.. Wow!It's really great! Now i have a chance to save the entire movie...but the errors of using flash disk is always present which make this device somehow like a fragile glass.... This is now the external hard drive with a capacity of more that 40 gigabyte! What??? Yap even 160 gig! Ok... So much space to save.. But how about the memory card of CP which is a unique saving device as big as your fingernails... smaller than USB and really a great saving device when you have mobile camera, video or music... just activate the card and presto.. Listen to want you want but be sure you have full battery.

Unlike those device that are rewritable, Compact disk is another saving device that may last for several years depends on how you care and mostly depends on its brand... it has two sizes the junior and the regular DVD sizes.. Usually this type of device used in saving movies and music... take note this device needs to be cared even more compared to the above mentioned devices... FYI it has a junior size device...

I look around the office and try to see the possible things to write on my blog. For almost 6 months of staying in Virtual Assistant Technologies Inc., there are things that captured my attention. The items, gadgets or things which serve different purpose in the workplace. In other words, Multi purpose equipment, machine or gadget. These could also be described as 3 in one or double purpose machines...

The 3 in 1 Printer
HP's latest printer which serves not only printer but also as scanner and a photocopier. This is another unique machine brought by thr technology new invention for human satisfaction. It's a very much important machine in the office especially to Ng Gem's daily transaction. Her duties require this certain machine that could help her maximize the purposes but uses less space.

The Double Purpose Pad
Another unique gadget is Miss Van's mouse pad with built in speaker. This is important for her, knowing her duty in the office. requires flexibility This is also an innovative computer peripheral and I'm sure it will never lose because it attached to a socket behind the computer tower.

The VA's Monitors
We only use the best machine in Virtual Assistant Technologies Inc. Our flat screen monitor with a built in speaker is another wonderful innovation. The wide screen also helps us to view multiple windows at a time and we can view the website perfectly. It means that we are really dedicated to provide business solution to our clients.

Our Guard's Mobile Phone
One thing that I really found interesting is our guard's cellphone. C3000 which has a Mobile TV feature which is one of a kind for me. I am a TV addict so I'd rather stay at home watching beautiful shows shows than to chit-chat with other people. Aside from that, it also includes the common feature of a modern phone. Like Player, Radio, Video, Camera etc... Another entertainment for all tech savvy individual.

Another one is the Water dispenser with a refrigerator... Oh it's found in our office! I just remember that appliance in my previous company.

My reversible jacket for instance also serve as double purpose. Some VA who loves to wear shades, which serves as ray ban and also hides their sleepy & red eyes after a night duty.

Other weird things that came out on my mind???

How about a buzzer that serves as air freshener? Where in, it releases a fragrance everytime someone pressed the button. (Anti-BO??)
How about the camera inside the office serves also as a thermal scanner? To find out who has a hihg temperature among us. (Anti - A(h1N1??)
How about the biometric scanner soon to be installed would have a capacity to tell our blood pressure? Nice idea to see who is on the pressure. (Anti-Hypertension??)

Chips in computer world are miniaturized electronic circuit (consisting mainly of semiconductor devices, as well as passive components) that has been manufactured in the surface of a thin substrate of semiconductor material. Integrated circuits are used in almost all electronic equipment in use today and have revolutionized the world of electronics. While;

They are the food tandem which I eat (even at the moment) everytime I am facing the computer doing this blog. Introducing "Chicken Chips" and "Butter Cookies" a food product of JD Bakeshop, a local bakeshop here in Iloilo City, Philippines. Wonder why I love this? Because they provide great savor on my pallet.

Barcode and Barcode Scanner are always pair in bringing convenience to the customer in every retail store. This is a method of automatic identification and data collection. They are the product of technology which made our life become faster and better.
The conceptualization of this apparatus was made in the late 1940s when the small group of students at Harvard University headed by Wallace Flint proposes a project for automated checkout system of product in a merchandising shop. In early 1948, at Drexel Institute of Technology in Philadelphia a local food chain is asking for a research project that could automatically read the product information during checkout. Bernard Silver and Norman Joseph Woodland, develop a solution in October 20, 1949 which they called "article classification .. through the medium of identifying patterns''. It was patented (US Patent #2,612,994) in October 7, 1952 for their Classifying Apparatus and Method. Bar coding was commercially used in 1966. In 1970 Logicon Inc. developed the Universal Grocery Products Identification Code (UGPIC) being the first company to produce barcode equipment. The first UPC or Uniform Product Scanner was installed in March's supermarket in Troy, Ohio. The Wrigley's Gum was the first product logged on the system.

That was started March 1989 made through the effort of Tim Berners-Lee, physicist, who wrote a proposal for information manage CERN, the European Organization. The proposal shows how information could be transferred easily over the Internet using hypertext. Which is now familiar point-and-click system of navigating through information. Robert Cailliau, a systems engineer, joined in and soon became its number one advocate and considered as first Web Surfer.

The idea was to connect hypertext with the Internet and personal computers, thereby having a single information network to help CERN physicists share all the computer-stored information at the laboratory.

Berners-Lee created a browser-editor with the goal of developing a tool to make the Web a creative space to share and edit information and build a common hypertext. What should they call this new browser: The Mine of Information? The Information Mesh? When they settled on a name in May 1990, it was the WorldWideWeb.

Mouse is the device used for interactions between human and computers. The first mouse was invented and developed by Douglas Englebart during the 60's while he was working at the Stanford Research Institute. Englebart team called it “bug”. It was patented on November 17, 1970 with patent no. US3541541 for an "X-Y Position Indicator for a Display System".

The first mouse, a bulky device used perpendicular to eone other. A two gear-wheels was used to translate the motion of the mouse into cursor movement on the screen. This mouse was first used with the Xerox Alto computer system in 1973. However, because of its lack of success the first widely used mouse is credited to being the mouse found on the Apple Lisa computer.

This is considered as breakthrough innovation in computer world.

Archie was considered as the grandfather of all search engine. It was created in 1990 by Alan Emtage, a student at McGill University in Montreal. Archie, which was actually a short for the original intent which is “archives”, was a search engine that regularly logged in to FTP servers in its list, and made an index of what files were on the server.

Archie helped solve data scatter problem by combining a script-based data gatherer with a regular expression matcher for retrieving file names matching a user query. The global collection of Archie servers process approximately 50,000 queries per day, generated by a few thousand users worldwide. Every month or two of Internet growth requires yet another replica of Archie. Archie became relatively obsolete with the advent of the World Wide Web and subsequent search engines, but Archie servers do still exist.
